How to properly ignite a solid fuel boiler?

The popularity of solid fuel boilers is associated with their efficiency and affordable fuel cost. The equipment is constantly being improved and supplemented with new features. The boilers can be divided into two groups - with manual and automatic loading.

The first launch of a solid fuel boiler

Despite the fact that the design of a solid fuel boiler is quite simple, you need to know how to start it correctly, because safety depends on it. The launch of a solid fuel boiler is carried out in stages:

    It is necessary to check the tightness of all connections in the system.
  1. Fill the pipes with coolant (most often water is used).
  2. Close the hatches through which the ash is cleaned.
  3. Check the pressure reading on the pressure gauge.
  4. Open the valve so that the coolant can move freely in the system and turn on the circulation pump.
  5. Fill the chamber with fuel and ignite it.
After that, it is necessary to control the pressure level for some time. If it is too high, it is necessary to turn off the equipment.

How to heat a solid fuel boiler with coal?

Coal is the most common type of solid fuel. It has an affordable price, and if properly laid, it will burn much longer and generate a lot of heat. There are several types of coal, each of which has its own characteristics:

    Coal. It is suitable for almost all types of boilers. Its heat output is only 5500 kcal-kg.
  1. Anthracite. This type of coal has the highest heat transfer rates. But it also has a disadvantage - high combustion temperature and difficulties that may arise during the ignition of anthracite.
What coal is better to use for a solid fuel boiler? The universal fuel is called coal, which is easy to ignite, releases a lot of energy and burns for a long time.

How to heat with coal:

    Dry paper is laid out on the grate. To make it burn faster, it is advised to crumple it up.
  1. Brushwood or wood chips are laid on the paper, forming the shape of a hut.
  2. The paper is set on fire. It is best to do this from several sides at once.
  3. The firebox door is closed and the ash pan latch is opened to allow oxygen to enter the firebox. While the wood chips are burning, you need to monitor the process and, if necessary, adjust the intensity of combustion using the ash pan door.
  4. A small portion of fine coal (no more than 1/3 of the furnace volume) is poured onto the well-burned chips.
  5. The firebox door is closed.
  6. After the coals are fully lit, you need to add fuel by slightly moving the one that is already burning in the firebox.
  7. The blower door is half closed. If smoke enters the room, they are closed, leaving a small gap.
To achieve a more intense combustion, it is necessary to cover the chimney damper by about half.

How to heat with wood?

Firewood is no less popular type of fuel. But only dry wood can be used for heating. If it is wet, condensation may form on the walls of the furnace or chimney, which, when combined with carbon monoxide, will form tar, reducing the permeability of the exhaust gases and reducing the service life of the equipment.

When choosing fuel, it is advised to pay attention to hardwood. It is better to refuse pine needles, because when such wood burns, resins are released that clog the heat exchanger and other parts of the boiler.

How to properly heat a solid fuel boiler with firewood:

    Before you heat the boiler with wood, you need to clean the ash pan, removing the remaining ash, if any. This will allow you to get the necessary traction and prevent the penetration of carbon monoxide into the room.
  1. First, paper is laid, then chips and straw. And only the last layer is wood. For a start, 2-4 logs with a diameter of no more than 10-15 cm are enough. To make them burn faster, it is necessary to leave a space between them through which air can freely penetrate, which promotes combustion.
  2. The paper is set on fire in several places.
  3. After the chamber and chimney are warmed up, you can put larger logs inside. It is best to lay them out in the form of a well.
Without waiting for the firewood to completely burn out, a new bookmark is made.

How to heat with briquettes?

Briquettes are an economical type of fuel. It is environmentally friendly and less likely to cause equipment breakdowns than when using coal.

How to properly heat a solid fuel boiler with briquettes:

    The amount of fuel that is put into the firebox depends on the power of the solid fuel boiler. To increase combustion efficiency, it is important that there is free space between the briquettes.
  1. It can be ignited in several ways, using a special liquid or by laying it on burning wood.
  2. When the briquettes start burning, the blower is slightly covered. If this is not done, the fuel will burn out quickly.
How to heat a solid fuel boiler with sawdust?

Sawdust in a solid fuel boiler must be loaded on top of burning wood or coal. For it to smolder well and for a long time, it is recommended to tamp it well.

How to increase the burning time?

To increase the burning time of a solid fuel boiler, it is recommended:

  • insulate the room and the boiler chimney;
  • increase the number of radiator sections;
  • use a buffer capacity;
  • install automation on the boiler;
  • use a three-way valve;
  • use quality fuel.
How to extinguish a solid fuel boiler correctly?

It is enough not to load the next batch of fuel so that the boiler goes out after a certain time. After that, it can be cleaned and preserved.

The heat and comfort in the house depends on the correct choice and operation of a solid fuel boiler. The process of its ignition is determined by the type of fuel used.
